Peter Dundas, The Man Behind Beyonce’s Grammy Looks, Is Launching His Own Line

The right dress can turn a gorgeous women into a goddesses, and designer Peter Dundas has made a career out of this transformation, creating high-drama pieces for some of the biggest labels in the industry. After leaving Roberto Cavalli in October 2016, where he was creative director for three seasons, Dundas came out of the woodwork, designing Beyonce’s Grammy gowns under his own name — a style mic drop if we’ve ever seen one. Now, on Friday, Dundas announced he’s officially launching his own label on Sunday at Couture Fashion Week in Paris.
The Norwegian designer started his fashion career as a design assistant to Jean-Paul Gaultier, and went on to serve as creative director for Cavalli, as well as Emanuel Ungaro and Emilio Pucci. “I’ve worked at relaunching three established brands now and I’ve enjoyed doing that, but at this moment, doing something completely new seems fresher to me, and in many ways seems easier,” he told Vogue. “I’m learning a lot.”
According to Business of Fashion, the label will be a partnership between Dudas and his romantic partner Evangelo Bousis, and will be available to shop exclusively on July 7 on Moda Operandi; the launch will be followed by a fall partnership with Farfetch, which “will feature more accessibly-priced jeans, t-shirts and dresses that will complement the high-octane occasion-wear for which Dundas is renowned.”
While we haven’t gotten a glimpse of what’s to come just yet, beyond Beyonce, Dundas has recently created custom looks for Emily Ratajkowski at Cannes. (He was also the one behind the lemonade-hued tiered dress Bey wore while smashing car windows in “Hold Up.”) . But, as anticipation for Sunday’s show grows, a quick scroll through the newly-created @DundasworldInstagram account shows the designer will continue to create clothes that embrace the female form and don’t shy away from opulence. After all, this is a man who famously proclaimed, “I make clothes that women want to put on and men want to take off.”
“I learned years ago that it was important to spend time with my girls, understand the life they lead, and why they’re into certain things or not into them anymore,” he told Vogue. “We would like to consider ourselves a lifestyle brand as much as a fashion brand, and part of the way to do that is to live that dream, to share that dream, as well.”

Crisp and Cool

A flirty crop top that doesn’t show too much skin

I typically avoid big, billowy blouses since they make me look like I have a baby bump, but I made an exception to this one. Since it’s cropped, with sweet little ties at the shoulder, it adds a flirty touch to an otherwise shapeless piece. It has a sort of Almost Famous vibe when paired with high-waisted jeans and a straw bag, and makes for an ideal piece for hot summer afternoons.

Gigi Hadid on Why Rihanna Is Her Style Inspiration and Where She Draws the Line on Social Media

Gigi Hadid will post the occasional Zayn Malik kissing shot on her Instagram. She’ll share baby photos, selfies, and photos of her vacations. But Hadid is admittedly less open on her social media accounts than she was when she first started: “I’ve kind of learned where people start to take advantage of things,” Hadid told in an interview yesterday at the launch of her Vogue Eyewear line. “Because in the very beginning, I was a lot more trustworthy of things, and I feel like I was a lot more freely able to post.”

“You kind of learn that there has to be a difference between how private you wanna be and how private people force you to be. So I try and be as open as I can without revealing too much of a certain situation, but you kind of just have to take it depending on the post and depending where you are.”

Before her Vogue Eyewear party last night, Hadid spoke to and a small group of reporters about how her first eyewear capsule collection—which includes three sunglasses and one pair of optics she designed—is really just all the glasses she couldn’t find. “I just wanted something that was timeless and shapes that I could wear everyday,” she said.

She teamed up with Vogue Eyewear because “they were able to produce sunglasses that were the quality I wanted,” she explained. “I’m not just gonna put out a sunglass line with whoever with whatever shape and whatever color and hope it works and put my name on it just for the money. If they weren’t sunglasses that I was gonna love and wear and be able to put myself behind, then I wouldn’t have done it. “

Here, Hadid talked to about the Vogue Eyewear campaign she stars in, what dishes she cooks for her friends (and her boyfriend, Zayn Malik), and how Rihanna fuels Hadid’s street style streak.

During your Vogue Eyewear campaign, you eat cake, bake, and ride horses. Do you have any fun behind-the-scenes stories from being on set?

Well, what I was really grateful about this shoot is that it’s all things that I like to do, so that makes the day go very fast and it’s very fun. Um, a fun story: [photographers] Mert [Alas] and Marcus [Piggott] got stuck in traffic and so the horse was already there and I rode the horse for like 45 minutes before they even got there [laughs], just around the backyard by myself. So that was fun. I was happy to finish hair and makeup early that day.

So what’s your best baking dish you make when you’re off-duty?

My favorite thing is to invite my friends over and ask them each to pick, like someone will pick like a dinner dish, someone will pick a dessert dish, and I really like making things that I’ve never made before and just seeing if I can do it. And last week I made a banoffee pie, which is a banana, toffee whip cream pie, and it actually turned out really good. I had never had one before, but my friend really wanted one so I made it for her and it was really good. That’s probably my newest favorite dessert to make.

And your best standard dish?

It’s hard to say. I don’t know! I feel like people have different favorites that I make. I’m not sure! I love making corndogs and I make jalapeños in the batter, and it’s really good. That’s my favorite.

Let’s talk style. What’s the best piece of fashion advice you’ve been given?

Carine Roitfeld once told me, “If you don’t know what to wear to a party, wear jeans, a T-shirt, and heels, [and] call it a night,” It’s made a lot of my nights easier.

And whose street style inspires you?

So many people. I mean, Rihanna, like every day. I can’t say that I could pull off the same things that Rihanna could, but she makes me excited about getting dressed the next day, I feel like, which is inspiring, so yeah.

Kate Middleton Channels Audrey Hepburn’s ‘My Fair Lady’ In White Lace At The Royal Ascot

Kate Middleton has stunned in an Alexander McQueen dress at the Royal Ascot and her outfit looked oddly familiar.

If you’re currently facing the dilemma of what to wear to a wedding this summer and battling concerns of sweat patches, swollen ankles and whether a fascinator could be used as a shield for your untamed frizzy hair in the unexpected British humidity, look no further for your formal fashion inspiration than Kate Middleton.

Yesterday, the 35-year-old Duchess looked stunning in a white lace dress by Alexander McQueen, paired with a matching chapeau adorned with beaded flowers, and pearl drop earrings – similar to the bespoke pair her sister Pippa wore at her wedding to hedge fund financier James Matthews last month.

Kate’s dress featured a high neckline, sheer sleeves, a belted waist, and a bell-shirt that skimmed just below the knee.

Keeping her make-up simple, with a slick of nude pink lipstick and a smokey brown eye, the mother-of-two teased her hair into a low bun at the nape of her neck.

The Royal’s dress was reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s high-neck white dress in the 1964 film, My Fair Lady.

Those with an eye for fashion will remember that Kate wore a smilier lace dress to the Royal Ascot last year – an off-white Dolce & Gabbana long-sleeved number paired with an off-white hat, and pearl drop earrings.

I mean, if it ain’t broke…

However, Kate wasn’t the only royal who dressed up for the occasion, as Prince William looked quite the gentleman in his top hat, umbrella and coattails.

Best Looks: Emma Watson

Emma Watson wore the princess dress version of your favorite sundress to her Paris movie premiere.

Emma Watson is a young lady of many accomplishments. She’s been cast as a Disney princess (in Beauty and the Beast, naturally), graduated from an Ivy League school, and has launched a global gender equality movement for the United Nations with HeforShe. And sartorially she’s just as prolific, wearing suits, gowns, and LBDs perfectly. No wonder she was recently named the world’s most outstanding woman. See all her best looks.

It’s a sustainable fashion marathon, full of black jumpsuits, bejeweled dresses, and more.

Before Emma Watson began her Beauty and the Beast press tour, she and her stylist sent designers a Power Point, according toVanity Fair, inquiring how their garments “are produced, what their impact is on the environment, and the moral reason why Watson should wear one on the red carpet.” Watson’s goal was to create a marathon press tour of entirely eco-friendly fashion. This is the result—a lot of color, variety, and plenty of the requisite Disney princess dresses.

She takes a very fashionable trip down memory lane.

Karlie Kloss has walked the runways for the best of the best fashion houses—so much so that she has now built up an enviable personal collection of one-off pieces and fresh off-the-runway gowns.

Lucky for us, Kloss is quite a keen YouTuber and documented a trip back to her family home to let us watch her rummage through her ‘kloset’ as she takes a very fashionable trip down memory lane.

You can see the full film here, but scroll down if you want to know our favourite moments from the clip:

What we learned from Karlie Kloss:

A few fun facts about Kloss were revealed in the video—with the model explaining that her parents sold their home and moved from St Louis to New York to support their daughter in her modelling career. Though this probably seemed like a risky move to take at the time, the risk certainly paid off.

Kloss’ first purchase, from her very first pay check, was a Land Rover car and she may or may not have had her first kiss in that car too.

The supermodel also admitted that she did a lot of runway shows ‘for trade’, meaning that she was paid in clothes rather than money. She reckons some of her best pieces have been gathered this way.

Her best fashion pieces were quite remarkable and we are incredibly envious that she just had these items lying around at her mum’s house, when we would either wear them every day or have them framed. Here are our top picks from her collection:

  1. Alexander McQueen off-the-runway original from his last collection
  2. Her Oscar De La Renta gown that she wore to the Met Gala in 2014
A Rodarte hand knitted jumper that she referred to as a “treasure”

Kloss says at the end of the video that she found the whole spring clean of her closet rather therapeutic—and probably immensely useful now she has packed that Rodarte jumper to bring to her actual everyday wardrobe!

Audrey Hepburn’s Clothes Are Going Up for Auction

Good news for devoted Audrey Hepburn fans: a collection of the beloved star’s clothes and personal items will go up for sale for the first time later this year.

Christie’s has confirmed that a flagship auction, featuring pieces from Hepburn’s extensive personal wardrobe, will take place in London this September, 24 years after her death.

Items in the sale, which have remained in the ownership of Hepburn’s family, are estimated to start at £100 ($126.64) and reach up £80,000 ($101,312). Key fashion pieces include a Burberry trench coat, with an estimated price tag of £6,000-8,000 ($7,598.40-10,131.20), a selection of her ballet pumps and a blue satin cocktail dress by Hubert de Givenchy, one of Hepburn’s favorite designers.

Hepburn’s personal archive of photographs will also be sold alongside film memorabilia. Hepburn was known to use turquoise ink to make notes about her characters and an annotated script from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is predicted to fetch £60,000-80,000 ($75,984-101,312).

For her family, the sale provides an opportunity to “pass on to future generations”.

“In an effort to include all who partake in these feelings for her, we have selected a collection of items to share with her ever-growing base of admirers,” Hepburn’s sons Luca Dotti and Sean Hepburn Ferrer commented. “We are honored to entrust Christie’s with this sale and it is with great joy that we wish to share her spirit, through this sale, and its related previews, with all who have enjoyed her films, her sense of style and followed her humanitarian legacy.”

As one of the world’s most admired fashion icons, it’s likely the one-of-a-kind sale will create quite a buzz at the auction house. In December 2006, a black satin evening gown designed by Givenchy for Hepburn’s most famous character, Holly Golightly, was sold by Christie’s for £456,200 ($577,868.54). The dress was expected to reach no more than £70,000 ($88,711).

The auction will take place at Christie’s King Street headquarters on September 27, alongside an online sale which will be open for bidding from September 19 until October 3. The collection will be on view to the public in an exhibition at Christie’s from September 23.
